Friday Five

Hi y'all! I haven't done a Friday Five in a while, so why not today?:)

Let's do it! Here we go...

#5. Last five books I've read and loved:

The Winner's Kiss by Marie Rutkowsi

Riders by Veronica Rossi
Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard
The Living by Matt De La Pena
Frozen Tides, by Morgan Rhodes

#4. Next five books on my TBR List (in no particular order):

The Crown's Game by Evelyn Skye

A Court of Mist & Fury by Sarah J. Mass
Girl Against the Universe by Paula Stokes
Need by Joelle Charbonneau
Wink, Poppy, Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke

Which should I read first?

#3. Five Cool Things You Might Not Know About The Nil series:

The Nil series has been translated into multiple languages, and Nil just sold to Columbia! Nil Unlocked recently released in Turkey...with more countries to follow.

Nil began in Hawaii--that's where the idea for Nil was born. See this post for more scoop.

NIL UNLOCKED incorporates some American history and science that is absolutely true. As for how it factors into the Nil world...well, I MADE THAT UP.;)

At the the end of NIL UNLOCKED, Skye has not let Nil go. OR IS IT THE OTHER WAY AROUND? Or is it both? Nil on Fire holds the answer....

I have a super cool announcement coming soon about Skye's uncle's journal... Stay tuned!

#2. Five Cool Things You Might Not Know About NIL ON FIRE:

In NIL ON FIRE, three of the four main characters return to Nil. NO  I CAN'T TELL YOU WHICH ONES. You have to read the book.:;)

The books starts with Paulo, picking up right where NIL UNLOCKED lefts off.

There are three points of view...and one of them belongs to Nil.

You meet new characters from Australia, Columbia, America, and more. Don't get attached... *spoiler alert* many of them die. BECAUSE IT'S NIL AND NIL ISN'T HAPPY.

NIL ON FIRE ends the series.

#1. Five Things I'm Stoked About for May:

Um, DUH. NIL ON FIRE!!!

NIL ON FIRE RELEASES IN 25 days!!!

IKR?! Can. Not. WAIT!

Because I'm so excited, I'm going to count the release of NOF as all five, because in my mind, it's five kinds of awesome.:) Don't forget to enter the pre-order contest to win cool stuff!

25 days!!!!!

Now, I'll leave you with this week's NOF teaser...

Happy Friday!

What's New with You?

Happy Friday! It's been FOREVER since I've posted!

How are you? What's new?

For me, summer is over. *sniff* The boys are back in school, and while I'm sooooooo sad to say goodbye to summer, I'm super stoked about what's coming up!

First, a little summer wrap. Ready?:)

JUNE.

June was all about the Southeast Summer Book Bash with Lindsay Cummings, Paula Stokes, Jaye Robin Brown, Robin Constantine, and Anne Blankman. THESE WOMEN ARE LOVELY, and their books will rock your socks. Getting to spend time with them was a treat for me.:)

Here's proof of all of the above:

Look how happy we are! This stop was AMAZING! But WHERE IS PAULA???
Happy authors in the house!

Found her! And she's rocking her skull kitty top. <3
Super sweet banner!:) Thank you Booksellers at Laurelwood!

Road tripping into Asheville at twilight...so pretty!

Lindsay rode shotgun with me and I love her just a little bit. She was my roomie too and is pretty much awesome. :)

A sweet set up in Asheville at the lovely Malaprops! Jaye Robin Brown was out moderator, and she did an incredible job!

Charleston was both deeply moving and incredibly sad. It was out last tour stop, and we wrestled with whether it was the right thing to do--to go talk about our books, when the city was suffering. But the lovely staff at Blue Bicycle Books assured us that to not come would be a loss all its own, because the city was banding together so tightly that it was inspiring. So we went. We arrived days after the terrible fatal shooting, and to our surprise, our hotel happened to be just across the street. We could see it from our window--the church, the support, the ministers gathering everyone together in prayer, the flowers and moments, and later, the protestors. I took this picture because this particular note spoke to me...this church was where MLK preached and worshipped. MLK was so wise; hopefully we will not only remember his legacy and his words, but start living them too.

*pauses*

Last day of the #SSBB tour....

A panel and signing at Blue Bicycle Books! SO. MUCH. FUN.:)

A great crowd, a great city.:)

A few #SSBB tour thanks: Thanks to all the booksellers who hosted us and made us feel so welcome! And thanks to all the moderators who helped us (Cliff Redwine! Nicole Castroman! JRo! We love y'all!) and thank to the READERS for coming out to support us!

After the #SSBB, I went to Orlando for the Orlando LibCon and IT WAS AWESOME.
Lori and Christy--amazing authors & super sweet to boot!:)

Then after ALL THE TOURING (Fierce Reads! WOOHOO! #SSBB! YIPPEE!) it was time to chill.

Which meant...

JULY IN THE BAHAMAS.

How gorgeous is this?!
So much inspiration here...I refilled my writer well. :) Lots of ideas to flesh out the end of NIL ON FIRE...

and lots of just chillaxin.

Me & my sweetheart...in the Abacos on Tahiti Beach

The rest of the summer? With my boys and my sweetheart and puppy Charley on the beach...
like this:

Charley...stalking fish on Crescent Beach:)
Charley ). Fish, one million. lol

So what's next?

I'll be doing school visits in September, going on tour with the YA Chicks in October...we're heading to Gainesville, Jax, Savannah, Atlanta & Nashville! Details to come, but you can definitely find us at the Southern Festival of Books in Nashville!

*breathes*

Happy June!

I can't believe it's JUNE. Seriously. WHERE DID MAY GO?

For me, it was the Fierce Reads tour, and the release of NIL UNLOCKED, and the last month of school for my four boys, and drafting NIL ON FIRE, and planning the #SSBB.

So. How about a quick Friday Five about May?:)

#5. FIERCE READS!!!!!

This tour was AMAZING. Meeting readers, chatting with bloggers, and hanging out with three of the most wonderful (and sweet! and talented!) authors I've ever met: Lindsay Smith, Marie Rutkowski, and Katie Finn (aka Morgan Matson. YES THERE WERE TWO MATSONS ON THE FR TOUR!!! How cool is that?! Answer: seriously cool.) Marie, Lindsay & Morgan were wonderful to tour with--all were so, so sweet, and the last night at dinner the three of us laughed so hard I cried. (I do that when I laugh really, really hard.:D) And that, my friends, is a sign of a GREAT TOUR.:) <3 these ladies!

Evidence of the Fierce Reads awesomeness:

We went to so many amazing bookshops...and met SO many wonderful people who love books as much as we do!:) I got to meet Jen Mathieu and Becky Wallace, authors I adore (plus Becky is one of my crit partners and I lurveeeee her).:) And I got to hang out IRL with bloggers I love--and members of the #NILtribe that I tweet with constantly!:) Like Mary & Stacee & Nikki & Skye & more!:) So much love for y'all!

And.... buttons! Cupcakes! THE GOODNESS WAS ENDLESS.:) Thank you to all who came to see us, and all the readers & booksellers & librarians who made us feel so welcome!!!!

One more pic of happiness: here's a great shot of us with Molly, one of the awesome Macmillan publicists who did so much to make this tour so full of amazing:

The amazing Molly grinning in a Matson sandwich:)

The second leg of the Fierce Reads tour is happenening right now, so go see those authors if you can!

#4. NIL UNLOCKED hit the wild!!!!!

#NILtribe readers sent these to me!:) THESE MAKE ME SO HAPPY!

And we had a NIL UNLOCKED launch party!!!!

These are my peeps AND I LOVE THEM.:)

#3. The end of school.

I have 4 boys. 2 in elementary school...1 in middle school...and 1 in high school. I can't even put into words the crazy factor of May for our family. Thank the good Lord its summer. FOR REAL.:)

#2. NIL ON FIRE!!!!!

Or as I like to say... NIL ON FIYAH.;)

Drafting. Furious drafting. Revising. Deleting. Pulling it all together. WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME HOW HARD IT IS TO END A TRILOGY???

I am still working on NIL 3 (which is now NIL ON FIRE) as we speak. Hence the lack of May blogging..see numbers 5. 4. & 3. above.:)

#1. Planning the Southeast Summer Book Bash.

In two weeks, I hit the road again with the lovely Lindsay Cummings. We're heading to Ga, AL, TN, NC & Sc. For all teh deets, go to the #SSBB website!

Friday Five -- Summer Book Style

Happy Friday sweet readers!

One of my favorite parts of summer is reading. The extra down time tucked inside each day . . . reading on the beach as the ocean rumbles in the background . . . staying up late to finish a great book because you can sleep in--no school is calling. (Or in my case, no school for my boys, which means no getting up early to pack lunches! Woot! And sleeping in? Not so much. Not yet anyway. Maybe when my littles aren't so little.:D)

Back to the books. Oh, the books!

Today's Friday Five! It's a shout-out to my favorite YA books of the summer so far. To be honest, these are some of my favorite books of the year, too. I loved each for slightly different reasons.

So here we go, in no particular order:

5. THE FIFTH WAVE by Rick Yancey

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

Pitched as THE PASSAGE (a book I enjoyed but didn't love) meets ENDER'S GAME (on of my all-time favorite books) this book had me at pre-order.

For me, THE FIFTH WAVE lived up to the hype. The premise was frighteningly realistic and Yancey executed it like a master. The twists were plentiful and unexpected. Plus, in a sci-fi setting, I love the exploration of the qualities that we, as humans, possess that both set us apart and hold the key to our survival. Well-done all around. It's the kind of book that will linger with you, long after you finish it.

I leave you with the quote Yancey chose to start the book: a snippet from the brilliant Stephen Hawking: "If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn't turn out very well for the Native Americans."

Chilling, don't you think? So was THE FIFTH WAVE.:)

4. REBOOT by Amy Tintera

Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).

Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.

The perfect soldier is done taking orders.

Another great sci-fi summer read for me. I went into REBOOT with high hopes, and like THE FIFTH WAVE, REBOOT delivered. Tintera never uses the word zombie, yet part of couldn't help thinking it was a fresh twist on the "died-and-came-back-to-life" thing that permeates most zombie books.

Because in Tintera's capable hands, no moaning, mindless walking dead here.

Instead, Tintera crafts lightning fast soldiers, and even better, she creates characters that have depth, internal conflict, and character arcs that keep you turning the pages late into the night. Wren and Callum were FANTASTIC, for different reasons. *sits on hands to not spoil a minute of your reading* I'd say more, but I want you to discover Tintera's brilliance for yourself. Read REBOOT and you'll see exactly what I mean. I just learned that Tintera has a sequel out next year, which makes me happy, happy, happy.:)

3. TORCHED by Andrea Lynn Colt

Cheerleader Rose Whitfield's senior year goes up in smoke when she's framed for arson. Sure that the culprit is her neighbor Paxton, with whom she's been feuding since middle school, she sets out to clear her name and take Paxton down hard--not necessarily in that order.

TORCHED was recommended to me by Caroline Richmond, and wow--what a great rec! A super fun, super fast YA contemporary, with interesting characters and a superbly-plotted mystery that will hook you from page one. Rose was well-crafted, same for Paxton, and I loved figuring out the villain along with Rose--as well as figuring out Rose herself. :)

If you loved Robin Mellum's DITCHED (which I did!), grab a copy of TORCHED. You'll love it, and I'm not blowing smoke.:)

2. TRANSPARENT by Natalie Whipple

An invisible girl is a priceless weapon. Fiona’s own father has been forcing her to do his dirty work for years—everything from spying on people to stealing cars to breaking into bank vaults.

After sixteen years, Fiona’s had enough. She and her mother flee to a small town, and for the first time in her life, Fiona feels like a normal life is within reach. But Fiona’s father isn’t giving up that easily.

Of course, he should know better than anyone: never underestimate an invisible girl.

Let me start by saying I love Natalie Whipple. I think she's amazing--kind and giving and talented, and she was a great CP for NIL. So of course I read TRANSPARENT as soon as I could get my grabby hands on it, and I prayed I loved it as much as I wanted to.

And you know what? I LOVED IT MORE. :)

Mutants, mobsters and an invisible girl that is fighting to see herself--including the girl she is inside, and the girl she wants to be. Fiona is a fascinating character, and I was blown away at how well how Natalie wove Fiona's story from page one, giving Fiona a fantastic cast of friends and family to reflect and encourage Fiona's own growth. There were also plenty of twists, both big and small, and reveals at the perfect moment--all constant reminders that I was in the hands of an excellent storyteller. :)

Last but not least, I also loved that, among the many YA series out there (and I'm a series girl, don't get me wrong), TRANSPARENT stands tall as a stand-alone. Take it to the beach, take it on your vacay--you're in for a treat!

1. ONE by Leigh Ann Kopans

When having two powers makes you a Super and having none makes you a Normal, having only one makes you a sad half-superpowered freak.

It makes you a One.

Sixteen-year-old Merrin Grey would love to be able to fly – too bad all she can do is hover.

If she could just land an internship at the Biotech Hub, she might finally figure out how to fix herself. She busts her butt in AP Chem and salivates over the Hub’s research on the manifestation of superpowers, all in hopes of boosting her chances.

Then she meets Elias VanDyne, another One, and all her carefully crafted plans fly out the window. Literally. When the two of them touch, their Ones combine to make them fly, and when they’re not soaring over the Nebraska cornfields, they’re busy falling for each other.

Merrin's mad chemistry skills land her a spot on the Hub's internship short list, but as she gets closer to the life she always wanted, she discovers that the Hub’s purpose is more sinister than it has always seemed. Now it’s up to her to decide if it's more important to fly solo, or to save everything - and everyone - she loves.

Oh how I loved this book. I ordered a copy of ONE based on the description (X-men vibes were strong for me) and in the meantime, I'd gotten to know Leigh Ann through Twitter. And I REALLY wanted to like ONE when I read it, just because I thought so much of Leigh Ann. Well, turns out I didn't just like ONE; I LOVED IT.

Here's why:

Merrin.

Elias.

And the whole notion of only having one superpower when every other Super has two. How can you fit in when you don't seem to belong anywhere: Super, or Normal? Merrin's frustrations and hopes are so honest, and Merrin's growth was stellar. Her relationship with Elias was sweet and real, yet I loved how Merrin stood on her own as a character. The ending left me wanting more but not frustrated--the perfect way to end the first of a series. Well-done. The sequel, TWO, comes out in October and I'm all over it.:)

So there you have it. My five faves of summer so far. . . and to celebrate I'm giving two of them away!

Up for grabs? My own personal copy of TRANSPARENT *sniff* *so hard to part with* and a signed copy of ONE.

All you have to do is enter below! May the Rafflecopter odds be ever in your favor :)

Friday Five

I haven't blogged in what feels like FOREVER. At least not here.:)

But yesterday over at All The Write Notes I talked about pacing, and how to know when you've hit the sweet spot in your novel.:) Thanks go to the a capella group Walk Off The Earth for the inspiration!

Anyway, I realized I hadn't posted in almost a month, because I've been super busy. So here's a quick Friday Five explaining what's happening with me, and with NIL . . .

5. Craft.

Yesterday I blogged about pacing perfection. Go here if you have a minute. Or 4 minutes...:)

4. Beta-reading.

I've been blessed to read for some amazing YA writers, who are all as sweet as they are talented. You're in for a treat from Becky Wallace, Trisha Leaver, and Lindsay Currie. I've read manuscripts from all three lovelies in the past few weeks, and all were exceptional.:) Way to go girls! *fist bump*

3. Chasing boys.

Mine, in particular.:) Lacrosse, soccer, golf, tennis, and swimming all spread among the four. Lately my writing time has felt pinched, which I hope to remedy soon!

2. NIL

My big edits are done! Woot! I'm not sure of the process, but I think copy edits or line edits are next. :) I bit the bullet and took the dreaded author photo yesterday. I don't know why, but photo shoots are always so intimidating. But it's done...new pic soon! And coming soon to the blog will be a NIL playlist...pics that inspired NIL...and more.:)

1. Music.

This weekend I'm going to see AWOLNATION with my sweet husband. Blondfire and Mother Mother are opening, and I CAN'T WAIT. I listened to AWOLNATION when I was revising NIL, especially the opening scenes from Thad's POV. And I discovered Blondfire during the same time. Their song "waves" is one of my absolute faves. I'm a huge fan, and since I found them when I was still fully involved in the NIL world, I think Blondfire will always remind me of NIL. :)

Here's my favorite Blondfire song right now....

Where The Kids Are
Blondfire

So what's your weekend plans? And what have you been up to lately? :)

Friday Five Linkapalooza!

Happy Friday, y'all!

For today's Friday Five, I'm doing a quick blog-post-shout-out to my faves of the week.

5. On craft.

Killer post on how to add tension during revisions by talented (and sweet!) author Janice Hardy. This post is so awesome that I'm bookmarking it.

4. On books.

More interview goodness about YA debuts dropping in 2013 and more 2014 MG/YA book love to come! If you haven't checked out One Four Kid Lit yet, it's definitely worth a visit.

3. On music.

Who says music isn't educational?! A fun post by the cool music writer Jennifer Carney. On a related note, the All The Write Notes blog is up and running, and you still have time to enter and win a CD by The Rural Alberta Advantage. So pop over and enter; you've got time. :)

2. Just because it's hysterical and I don't want you to miss it. :)

Ok, so this post by the hilarious Tracey Neithercott had been up for a few weeks, but thanks to living in a cave full of NIL edits and tortilla chips, I didn't discover it until this week. :) And oh my land, IT'S HYSTERICAL. Tracey tells a story in YA book covers, and it's classic. YOU HAVE TO READ IT. And as a bonus, you might even discover a book to add to your TBR list. Tracey, you rock.

1. In which I leave Number One up to you.:)

Do you have a favorite post of the week? Let me know what I missed.:)

Until then, here's my favorite track of the week:

Mother Mother's Simply Simple. Enjoy! :)

Friday Five

It's FRIDAYYYYYYYYYY!

*breathes*

Here's my week wrap-up...a fast and furious Friday Five. The top five things on my radar this week:

5. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Here's my all-time favorite MLK, Jr. quote:

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

Just--awesome.

4. Beta-reading for Lindsay Currie and Jay C. Spencer. Totally different manuscripts, each individually wonderful. And I can't wait to read Tonya Kuper's revisions on HAUTE MESS, which is a hilarious rom-com close to my heart.

3 & 2. Blogs!

Check out One Four Kid Lit, full of 2013 MG and YA debuts, and get to meet MG and YA authors debuting in 2014. So many great books ahead!

Coming next Monday...All The Write Notes, a blog for writers who love, and live, music. The first post is about The Rural Alberta Advantage, and Jay C. Spencer is giving away cool stuff. (I'd tell you but I'm sworn to secrecy. Well, not really, but it's SO COOL. You want it, trust me.)

I'm so stoked to be part of both of these blogs I can barely stand it.

1. NIL edits.

BOOM. Done. And it feels so good. I turned them in, on time, and I feel really, really good about them. I can't wait to see my cover...and to hold an ARC...and for 2014!

Soon I'll post a NIL playlist, but in the meantime, I leave you with this: Willie Moon's Yeah Yeah. I cranked this song when I finished, feeling it for me and for my manuscript. And if you haven't seen this video, then you're in for a treat. It rocks.

Enjoy.:)

Friday Five

Hey, y'all! How are you? I thought I'd do a quick Friday Five to share what's been going in in my life.

5. End-of Year School Craziness

With four boys in two different schools, we had holiday parties, teacher gifts (I baked M & M cookies for dozens of teachers... and made white chocolate trash for others), final projects, etc. The first few weeks of December were like a Disneyland ride on warp speed. Fun, but WILD.

4. Holidays

Um, yeah. I LOVE Christmas. I love the songs, the festive vibe, the family traditions we have... the whole thing. And I love decorating for the holidays. The house is decked out, with lights and garland inside and out. Step inside and we've got Nativity sets and Santas and all kinds of stuff EVERYWHERE. Some tacky, some not, and like the boys, I love every bit of it. :) But while I love decorating, and celebrating, it takes time, time sometimes I feel pressed to find, especially this year. And right this minute I don't even want to think about taking all the decorations down. The  holiday breakdown is a less fun time-suck on the other end, coming in a January when I seriously do not have one minute to spare. (More on that in a second).

3. Company

We had my hubby's brother, sister-in-law, and their kids, plus my mother-in law and my mom for Christmas. Then the day after Christmas, some of our best friends from Beijing came to visit for a day/night with their three girls...and two hours after they left my sister and her husband and their two boys rolled in. They'll be with us until the new year, which is AWESOME. My sister lives in Wisconsin, and I don't see her enough. We'll have had company for two weeks totally, which is awesome and crazy and crazy awesome. Normally I'd relax after but NOT THIS YEAR. (More on that in a second). And my kids aren't back in school until January 7th. *gulp*

2. All The Write Notes.

A cool music blog for writers is in the works. A group of us are pulling it together and I can't WAIT for you to check it out! Debuts in January... I'll keep you posted. :)

1. THIS:

Yup, NIL edits. :) Woohoo! Got 'em December 11th, chatted with my editor on the 13th, and my revisions are due mid-January. *panics* *wails* *breathes* :) The cool thing is that I finally see how it's coming together... it's really going to be a book. A published book, that people (and not just my friends and CP's LOL) can read. And *hopefully* will like.

But edits. Mid-holiday. Yeah, there's that. So I'm just doing the best I can. :) Aren't we all? :)

My next post will be a 2012 wrap-up, short & sweet. Then it's going to be a little NIL for the new year, with playlists, background, inspiration, and character shorts. I can't wait for you to meet Charley and Thad!

Anyway, I hope your holidays have been lovely, full of friends, family, love, and of course, cookies. (My favorite this year were ginger-chocolate chip bars. Delish!)

Let me know what's new with you, and if you have a favorite holiday cookie. :)

Friday Five

Whew!

It's Friday sweet friends!  How was your week? Mine was the official end-of-summer-as-I-know-it. Yup--you guessed it, my boys went back-to-school.

To wrap up the week, here's a quick Friday Five!

1. Word of the week: bittersweet.

Like Big Head Todd sang back in the day (*dates self*), it was more sweet than bitter, but as much as I reveled in the quiet house, I missed my boys. The house felt so . . . empty. After a summer full of Nerf wars, and all kinds of boy noise, the stillness was almost eerie. :) (Note: I said almost. hehe)

(For those wondering who the heck Big Head Todd is, check out the Big Head Todd and the Monsters video here.) :)

2. Giveaway of the week: books!

On my blog! :) Two books up for grabs: DESTINED by Jessie Harrell and ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS by Stephanie Perkins. Check out Tuesday's blog post for the deets. :)

3. Creeptastic Picture of the Week:

It's an oak tree, a few miles from our house. I swear it's a wood nymph trapped for eternity. See how she's raising her arms to the sky? *shudders* And like Tweetheart Jess Keating noted on Twitter, it's like she (or he!) is chained to the ground. Cool and creepy. (Repeats to self..."it's just a tree...it's just a tree...") THERE'S A STORY HERE, I feel it. :)

4. Link of the week: Editor Cheryl Klein's awesome post on A Few Things Writers Can Learn From Harry Potter. It's been around a while, but was a recent find for me. LOVE IT. :)

5. Recent YA release added to my towering TBR pile: THE KILL ORDER by James Dashner (a prequel to THE MAZE RUNNER)

So that's it!

How was your week? Did you see anything creepy, or creepy-cool? And have you ever heard of Big Head Todd?

Friday Five

It's Friday! *cue happy dance*

Tonight my sweet hubs and I are going to see the new Bourne movie. I'm stoked. I LOVED Matt Damon in the other Bourne movies, and can't wait to see Jeremy Renner in this one. Yay for date nights! :)

But I can't believe it's FRIDAY. Already. Wasn't it just Monday?! I don't know about for you, but for me, this week has been CRAZY. I'm talking all caps kinda-shouty CRAZY. :) I'm still not sure where the days went...

But here's a clue: it's a quick FRIDAY FIVE!

5. Word of the Week: multi-tasking. This week I've juggled dentist appointments, doctor appointments, back-to-school clothes shopping, middle school orientation, school supply hunting, swimming, golf practice, football practice, gymnastics practice . . . and more. And this was just for my boys! Not to mention the grocery shopping, house cleaning, and then some. (Oh, who am I kidding...the house is a wreck. But my fam is happy. :D) I've managed to squeeze in a *little*writing/revising time, but some weeks other life/family/home priorities take precedence, and that's okay. I'm still working on the writing/family/life balance...but aren't we all? :)

4. Book of the Week: THIRST by Christopher Pike. I've read it before, but when life turns crazy, I'm not afraid to re-read a book I loved. Especially when the voice is so different from mine--it cuts out any possibility of a voice leak, and lets me just enjoy a great read. And this read is KILLER! :) hehe

3. Cookie of the Week: chocolate chip. Wild weeks call for the basics. :) *nom nom* I did mix it up and throw in milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet. Total yum.

2. Blog Shout-Out of the Week: Mother. Write. (Repeat.) Hosted by the lovely Krista Van Dolzer, this blog is great for aspiring writers. Lots of good info on agents, and next week, Krista is hosting An Agent's Inbox contest starting Monday! So get thee to Krista's blog if your MS is shiny! :) (Way to spread writer love, Krista! :D)

1. Song of the Week: It's Time by Imagine Dragons. Perfect for writing, perfect for everything. An all-around sweet tune. Here's a acoustic version that blew me away:

Has your week been as crazy as mine? And what's the weirdest/craziest/awesomest thing that happened this week?
